While growing up in school I never wanted to donate blood in the school gym.

However, on Thursday July 12 I decided to make a difference... by getting my blood drawn for the very first time.

The American Red Cross hosted a three day blood drive at the Louisville Churchill Downs. It began Tuesday at 11a.m. and last until 7p.m.

Check in was located on the fourth level in Millionaire's Row told them I was a first time donor they gave me a green sticker as in indicator that I was making a difference.

After giving my pint of blood and several tubes for testing they provided us with juice, water and snacks. Along with a seat checking in to make sure we were doing okay.

Followed by a free dinner courtesy of Stoker's Broaster Chicken.

The greatest incentive was receiving a free ticket to King's Island/Cedar Point.

The blood drive was created to prevent blood shortages among hospitals. There isn't enough blood being donated as quickly then it's going out to patients.

I would have to say my first time donating was a fairly good experience. Those who were operating on me couldn't get over the fact of my humor yet seriousness. Several times I had to have them assure me that I wasn't going to die.

Before they hooked my up I asked questions and showed them exactly where my right arm vein was yet somehow they slightly still missed it with the needle. "Girl you just have those deep veins!," a Red Cross Representative said. Hmmm... Well then I suppose that's why my love run so deep for people?!

Not sure if that was a cop out because they wanted to ease my mind about the overall experience or they just really had no clue what they where doing and insist on trying to play it off. Which ever I was able to donate a full pint along with 5 additional tubes of blood for testing purposes. With an iron level of 13.4 barely exceeding pass the minimum level in order to donate. It took me about 12 minutes to fill the bag and although I thought it would have taking me less than 10, I suppose my blood doesn't flow as quickly as I thought.

The Aftermath

Working and operating cameras at 4 in the morning the nect day was not a good idea based on the condition I was in. It had not been longer than 12 hours since I gave my donation.

I was trying my best to stay a float however I kept being asked by co workers if I was okay. The answer to them was yes even though I honestly knew I was dying inside. Feeling dizzy while standing and lightheaded when trying to bend down just to pick paper up... pushing a large studio camera across the floor and setting shots didn't make my life at the moment any better.

I literally was in tears and had to sit down for a while take a drink and eat a snack. Throughout the night I woke up to take several sips of water and that same dehydration was present hours later. I hardly got ample amount of sleep the night prior to donating blood which made me feel worse.

On break I ate a yummy, nutritious salad from Panera Bread and was able to rest my eyes for a little while. Returning from break I felt a little better however still weaker than what I am use too. I floored by myself for midday and made sure I set down during commercial breaks and any other moment I could.

As the weekend continued I still did not get the amount of rest I should have had but I was able to eat a bit more than I normally do.

On the following Monday I called and was able to find out what blood type I am...it's pretty universal!

Be sure to donate blood whenever you have the chance. Since it takes a while for red blood cells to replenish themselves I am not able to give blood again until September... why don't you stand in my absence.

People always ask..."I don't see nor know how you do it?!" 😒👀

Me either, I just do it!

Pleeeaaasssee... somebody tell me what in my right mind told me to work on a busy day. 👀

I am fairly use to working two jobs in one day, that's not a problem at all. It wasn't working two jobs in one day that bothered me, it's the amount of work and energy one job in particular required of me.

The Ironman Triathlon took place in downtown Louisville tonight. Ironman is a race that consist of swimming, biking and running. This is a major event that occurs in different places across the country and nationwide. People from everywhere came in town just to participate, there was a total of 2,750 thousand athletes ranging between the ages of 18 and 90 years old.

Beginning at 7:30 in the morning here is their route first up was swimming in the Ohio River...

I was working at job number one during the time participants started their race. Straight from working at the news station I went to church like any other Sunday. Although instead of going straight home, or going to the mall or just hanging out with people I went home to take roughly an hour nap.

A nap that did not suffice to how tire I really am. Off to working at job number two I went... I had to be in at 4:30 PM. I was expecting for us to open at 5 PM but apparently 'we' opened the doors at roughly 3:30 PM due to the high demand of customers. A chilly day for a race whatever better food can one choose from other than hot soup?!

The day before I made a status on my Facebook and I could not ever imagine competing in something so vigorous.

Based on my long day it felt as if I had a triathlon myself. Although it's nothing I really train for, I just do in order to make a living.

Seeing and interacting with those who completed the race brought on a sense of inspiration. No, I am not inspired enough to ever compete in the Ironman race but knowing that so many people enjoy being participants and have spent days perhaps years training for this race is amazing.

I spoke with so many different people prior to the race as well as after. Each time I was amazed to know where they were from, what their goal for the race was and the logistics of how it all goes.

Zoup was very busy, busier then I have ever seen it during a normal lunch rush. It took all the iron 'out of me' bouncing back and forth from versus stations, cleaning up as the time goes on. There I was spending more hours standing and interacting with people, it was tiring yet refreshing.

Literally putting in work with very little energy. I have never been a fan of coffee, energy drinks nor bars. I just push through... I'm sure my iron level isn't where it should be but after tonight it just approved that anything is possible as long as you continue to push through.

I commend everyone who participated, tried and finished! Now rest up all, recover well and for I shall do the same because guess who has to be up in a few hours again for work?

It's been years since I've last sat in the chair and was under the light to get my teeth examined.

Today was the day at the age of 23, I'm the one setting up the appointment and filling out the paperwork.

The last time I went to my neighborhood dentist, Dixie Dental was in 2011. I eventually went to the U of L dentistry to see about getting braces since I was still covered through insurance. Although, thanks to the busy life I lived being involved in school and the community, I was never 'able' to go back in time.

I literally graduated high school, went away for college, graduated and never had any dentist appointments. Now, six years later I come to the dentist bearing only 5 cavities. In my opinion that's not too bad for someone who as a kid never really had any.

Four of these cavities where located on the top row in the back... two on each side, placed side by side. As for the fifth tooth it was the biggest cavity I had located on the left bottom side of my mouth. My top left tooth was the one that hurt the most and was hard to fill-in.

They gave me a shot and numbed the bottom left part of my mouth. The numbness didn't wear off for me until about 8pm... well I really don't know exactly when because I was napping.

After all these years my dentist Dr. David Waugh, still can't believe I have yet to get my wisdom teeth pulled. They haven't been an issue so why get them pulled now? Is really how I've looked at the situation. I have somewhat of a crossbite and that was part of the reason why I was considering braces. I may reconsidering getting some Invisalign braces soon.

My first trip back to the dentist wasn't bad at all only thing I don't like is the x-ray part and getting 5 fill-ins all in one day... but hey gotta do what you have to do.

*Challenge for myself: Floss more and chill out on the sweets some.

*Note to you and myself: Go to the dentist more often... no matter how "busy" you are!
