When Beyoncé and Jay-Z On the Run Tour II was initially announced in March it received it's inspiration from a classic Senegalese film of two young lovers on the run, Touki Bouki. The superstar couple always look to Africa for inspiration, however the Carter's have never honored their African fans with live performances.

Beyoncé 2016 visual album Lemonade was greatly impacted by the African culture ranging from the voluminous, antebellum-styled clothing in an Ankara print. Somali-British poet Warsan Shire’s words were placed throughout the visual album.

While performing on stage in 2017 at the Grammy's,Beyoncé channeled the Yoruba goddess Oshun. Prior to this performance in 2011, Beyoncé flew in Pantsula dancers from Mozambique to teach her dance moves for her single 'Run The World (Girls)' video.

Now that the Carter's are on tour together it's been a while since either one paid a visit to the motherland. When planning for the OTRII tour no stops were suggested to be in Africa neither was the first On the Run tour and Beyoncé's Formation tour which only went as far as west Europe.

The last time Beyoncé performed in South Africa was part of a charity concert for late former president Nelson Mandela’s 46664 foundation in 2004— she then was a member of Destiny’s Child. As for Jay-Z he last toured in South Africa in 2006.

Roc Nation, Live Nation nor Big Concerts have mentioned the possibility of Beyoncé and Jay-Z performing in South Africa, or why they haven’t toured there in more than a decade.
